How Do I Clean Vinyl Siding?

Cleaning the vinyl siding on your home is simple to

do when you use the proper cleaning solutions and techniques. Cleaning your vinyl siding will make it look like new again.

The first step is to verify that the surface is vinyl. Make sure that the material is not cement fiber, aluminum siding, or painted wood. These other materials are porous and will require a completely different technique for cleaning them.

When cleaning, use a long handled brush with soft bristles or a soft cloth in order to not smear stains into the vinyl surface. You will need to mix a solution of three parts of water to one part chlorine bleach in a large bucket. For stronger stains, substitute Liquid Soap, Fantastic, or Simple Green for the bleach. Be sure to spot check on an inconspicuous area before you begin.

Clean the vinyl from bottom to top. This will prevent the streaking and running of the stains. After you finish the area, rinse the entire side of the house from the top down. Be sure to cover any facing brick with plastic in order to prevent the cleaning material from staining the brick.
