What Is E-Learning?

E-Learning is defined as the kind of learning that

can be done through a computer and internet connection or CD-ROM.

E-learning comprises of different forms of electronically supported learning and teaching for individuals, educational institutions and business organizations. E-learning can be delivered through internet, intranet/extranet, audio or video tapes, satellite TV and CD-ROM . However, e-learning can happen at any time of the day without the need to attend a class. Some of the e-learning applications and processes include computer-based learning, web-based learning, virtual classroom opportunity and digital collaboration.

E-learning can be self-paced or instructor-led and include media in the form of text, image, audio, streaming video and animation. The major advantages of e-learning are convenience, no time restriction, flexibility to schedule, less expensive and easy to access. However, e-learning can be disadvantageous for students who can’t manage time, lacks self-discipline and can’t understand technology involved. E-learning also lacks student-teacher interaction.
