How Do I Build Cabinets?

By making your cabinets yourself, you will be able to save thousands of dollars of your new cabinet project. If

you take your time, this project is one that almost anyone can handle.

First, measure the size of the cabinet that you want to build. A standard size for a base cabinet is thirty four and a half inches high and twenty four inches deep. Draw out the cabinet on a sheet of paper and document your measurements. Now go to the lumber yard and pick up the wood. Fused melamine will last a long time because if doesn’t rot. The best sized sheet to buy when building cabinets is 48” x 96”. You should also attach some edge binding to the edges in order to improve their appearance.

The next step is to cut your sheet into the back and sides that you need in order to make the cabinet. Staple the pieces to the wood, and band them together. Once you have them put together, stain or paint the cabinet in order to match your décor, and then attach the doors to the front.
