How Do I Build A Bookcase?

Answer:
Bookcases are an inexpensive and very practical solution to your storage needs ,

especially if you are a reader like I am. We are going to look at how to do make one in your shop.

To do this, you will need the following items: one piece of 2” x 10” x 12’ lumber cut in half, 2 pieces of 1” x 10” x 8’ lumber cut into 32” sections, 4 L brackets per shelf, saw or router, thin plywood, brads and screws, sandpaper, paint, and stain, drill and drill bits, screwdriver and hammer.

Cut the 2” x 10” x 12” piece of lumber into two six foot pieces, as these will be the sides of your bookcase. Take your 1” x 10” x 8’ piece of lumber into three 32” sections. These will be the top, bottom, and middle shelves. Sand the boards smooth, and then paint or stain the boards and the edges. Attach the L brackets where you plan on putting the shelves, making them three inches from the front and back. Paint them to match the color of your paint or stain so they blend in. Now attach the shelves, and then cut and fit the thin plywood to the back and you are ready to use it.
