What Is A Biopsy?

Answer:
A biopsy involves the removal of a tissue sample for deeper evaluation .

The medical team will examine the tissue under a microscope, which means that only a small amount of tissue is needed.

Sometimes, all they will have to do is scrape over an area, such as when they taking cervix samples. When examining the large intestine, a biopsy will be taken with forceps through a tube called an endoscope. A local anesthetic will be given, and the patient will lay on their left side with their right shoulder extended and their right hand under their head. The needle will then be inserted between two ribs toward the liver, and the sample  is quickly taken.

An endometrial biopsy is taken in order to examine the womb lining. There are several different ways to take the biopsy. A dilatation and curettage is performed under a general anesthetic. The cervix is then dilated until a curette (small spoon) is able to scrape the liming. In a hysteroscopy, a fiber optic tube with a light on the end is inserted through the cervix in order to get a look at the lining of the womb. There are other ways being developed in order to gather small tissue samples.

In a prostate biopsy, the patient will lay on their side with their knee...
