What Is A Benign Tumor?

Answer:
A benign tumor is a tumor that lacks all three of the

malignant properties of cancer.

As such, a benign tumor will have the following properties: does not grow in an unlimited aggressive manner; does not invade surrounding tissues; and does not spread to non adjacent tissues. Many types of benign tumors will be harmless to your overall health. However, there are some neoplasms that are defined as benign tumors because they do not have the invasive properties of a cancer, but they will still have negative health effects. Benign tumors are usually surrounded by an outer surface that will inhibit their ability to behave in a malignant manner. Bear in mind that many types of benign tumors will also have the potential to become malignant tumors if they are not treated.

Benign tumors can take on many forms, depending on their location and type of tumor. Some of the symptoms of a benign tumor include the following: bleeding or blood loss which causes anemia; pressure which causes pain or dysfunction; cosmetic changes; itching; hormonal syndromes which result from hormones that are secreted by the tumor; obstruction; and compression of blood vessels and vital organs.
